So for example let’s say you’re selling an item at $100 and of that amount you earn 40% commission ($40). To make profit, you’ll need to run advertising spending less than that amount for each sale you make. With a high ticket product worth $4000 (with 40% commission) you’ll earn $1600 per sale. This gives you much greater chance at profiting when running an advert. You can spend up to $1600 on advertising in this scenario and still break even! But with the low value product your budget will have to be pretty tight. You can only spend $40 and break even (if you don’t sell anything) before you’re running at a loss.

High Ticket Digital Marketing – Selling A Product Range

A product range gives you even more leverage. So for example let’s say you’re selling the above example product for $4000 but you also have subscription products within your sales funnel. You can earn $1600 per sale (at 40%) but you also earn a recurring commission every month from subscription sales. Add to this a range of products which offer low, medium and high ticket value and you can see how you can be more profitable from a model like this.

A high ticket digital marketing funnel gives you the best opportunity to become profitable using paid marketing. With lower value products it’s much more difficult because the margin of error for learning marketing is so much smaller. With only a small valued product, you can’t spend as much in your marketing budget before running into a loss. With a high ticket sales funnel, you can more easily recoup your costs and turn a profit, even just from only a few sales.

Best High Ticket Products To Sell For Affiliates

Affiliate marketers can sell almost anything online. Providing a product has an affiliate program, you can earn money selling it. Some products pay much more than others of course with high ticket products paying the most. Even a high ticket items though, only pays once. Subscription affiliate products can, over time, pay much more than a high ticket items.

With a subscription product, your customer pays a monthly/weekly fee. So your commission is a recurring one which continues as long as your customer maintains their membership. With software products and business tools, for example, this can be for years, if the product is vital for the building of a business.

An autoresponder tool, for example, is a great product to sell as an affiliate because it’s an essential part of an online business. While commissions are small, they are monthly commissions which pay you a recurring income from each customer you can refer. Autoresponders are used by affiliate marketers to collect email subscribers from a website and automate the delivery of email marketing messages.

Most Effective Digital Marketing Strategies

The most effective digital marketing strategies are those you can scale up! Organic marketing methods such as blogging can take months or even years before you get traction. But with paid marketing methods such as Google Adwords, for example, you can get traffic almost immediately.

The problem with paid marketing is the cost. If you’re a beginner too, expect to spend some time learning a strategy which works. With a low valued product this is going to cost you a lot of money while you experiment with different advertising campaigns. But with a high value product range, you can get profitable much more quickly.

With a digital product like a training course or internet business software, one of the best strategies for marketing is to build an email list of subscribers and promote the product through your list.

With affiliate marketing, you don’t need your own products and you don’t even have to speak to any customers or personally deliver products. Instead, you “partner” with a program and link to their products. When you make a sale through your affiliate link, you’ll earn a commission based on your referral.

Certain affiliate programs pay 1-11% commissions and some even pay up to 40%-100% commissions on certain products. So which ones are the best programs for affiliates and how do affiliates get people to purchase products through their links?

Promote Products Online And Earn Commissions – Best Programs

The “best” product for you will depend on how you want to go about promoting your affiliate product/s and your own particular style of working. Some affiliates want to build a huge business online and be free of their job – escape the 9 to 5. Others just want a side income which will help them out with their monthly payments. So depending on your own personal circumstances, you could go in a few different directions.

There’s a few ways to do affiliate marketing. Ultimately you need to put yourself between the customer and the product in some way. Many affiliates start out creating content (like this article). If someone purchases something from my website, I earn a commission based on the sale. Some affiliates build review websites and link through to them in their content.

You can also use paid marketing to send people directly into a sales funnel and sell products and services through email marketing. This is the fastest way to build a profitable online business, but also more expensive.

Promote Products Online And Earn Commissions – Types Of Products

Amazon is often where many affiliate marketers start out. Amazon is a trusted brand and most people are comfortable buying from the site. So affiliates can join their program and link to certain items on Amazon’s website. This is a good idea if you already have a functioning website based around an interest or passion. You can simply link to relevant products which your visitors might be interested in and monetise your site.

However, it’s worth noting that Amazon only pays its affiliates between 1 and 11% commissions on its products. So it’s hard to build up a large income from a small amount of traffic (website visitors). Plus, it’s difficult to use paid marketing using low value products like you would find on Amazon. Take a look at Amazon’s payment structure in the image below.

Promote Products Online And Earn Commissions – Digital Products

Digital products tend to pay larger commissions to their affiliates (40%-100%). However, digital products can be more difficult to sell. Everyone knows and trusts Amazon and it’s clear what the products are and their value.

But certain online products are sold by unknowns, and this can make them harder to sell. Some people are still sceptical of buying products from certain websites. Sites which have been around for a while now like eBay and Amazon tend to have built up more trust.

Plus it’s difficult to know the value of some digital products unless you have a direct experience of them. It’s a little like buying clothing online without knowing the size!

Despite some obstacles to selling digital products I would definitely recommend going down this road if you want to stop trading your time for money and create a full time income online. Physical products are much more difficult to earn from because of the lower rates of commission. This also means it’s difficult to grow and scale your business if you’re solely relying on organic traffic.

Choosing Products With Multiple Earning Strategies

Many affiliates struggle when starting out because they don’t get the help they need. They also make many mistakes as I did, when they don’t know a good direction, or find an affiliate marketing mentor. Choosing products which continue to pay you over and over is much more rewarding than only using “one-off” payment products like you might find on Amazon and in most other affiliate programs.

Residual Income

Amazon will reward you once for a referral. Amazon wins a customer and you get paid. But you need to keep finding new customers in order to keep making commissions. With recurring commission affiliate programs it’s different because you continue to earn revenue from customers you have referred previously. Products which include memberships and software are typical examples of those kinds of products which reward you continuously for a referral.

High Ticket

High ticket programs offer large value products and often larger commissions than the average online products would. A sale of a $2500 product could earn you $1000 in one sale. Compare this to a low value sale of a physical product which only pays you 5-10%. A book on Amazon for example would only pay you 5% of $20, or $1. See highest paying affiliate programs list.

Multi-Tier Commissions

Multi-tier commissions come from sales made by your referrals. So if your affiliate program offers multi-tier commissions you can build a team and benefit from sales they make. Not many programs offer multi-tier commissions but it’s another thing to consider if you’re going to learn affiliate marketing.

“Up-Sells”

You know the annoying “up-sells” you’ve probably seen them. They are starting to offer you chocolate bars in service stations here in the UK now! That’s because they know in every 100 customers some will say yes and over all the service stations run by a particular company their profits will increase.

On the internet up-sells can be completely automated so it makes sense to use them. If you join a program which offers up-sells, you can benefit from sales made by a sales team and automation. You only refer the first sale, but benefit from later purchases made by your referrals.

Using A Product Range

A product range is basically a number of up-sells or products which the customer can choose from. Each up-sell is more expensive than the last product. It’s a little like a company like Apple. If Apple had an affiliate program, (they don’t), it would be a great program because they have many products. With a product range you can refer a customer once and benefit from later purchases they might make from a range of products.

Lifetime Value Products

If you’re going to promote products online and earn commissions from them, it’s worth choosing products which have a lifetime value to the customer and which reward you for that! With membership products and software products you can earn ongoing commissions as an affiliate marketer.

But if people drop out because the product is no longer any use, you’ll cease to earn commissions from that sale. So really it’s worth choosing your products very carefully. Choose products which reward you for referrals and on an ongoing basis. But also choose products which are necessary and vital for people and massively improve their lives.

Lifetime value products can include thinks such as:

• Software products which are needed for online businesses to run
• Training and coaching products which help people create more freedom in their lives and escape their jobs
• Any products which helps people solve their biggest problems – the bigger the problem, the more likely people are to stay with a product or service

Digital Marketing Mentorship – My Story

Stuart Ross and Jay Kubassek created an online business and marketing mentorship program called the SFM: Six Figure Mentors.

I was a struggling affiliate marketer when I found Stuart’s video on Facebook and I signed up to the free video series. Despite some doubt over the authenticity of the program I signed up and was able to meet other affiliates and even met the founders Stuart and Jay at a meeting in London in 2014.

The SFM offers a training and education program which can operate as a stand-alone business. As an affiliate marketer you can promote the training and education programs through the SFM and earn commissions on the sales. I was trying to build a kung fu school at the time of joining and used the education to advertise my school.

Digital Marketing – Mentors & Coaches

Having access to mentors, coaches and groups of people who were on the same journey helped massively; both in building my kung fu business and also in learning the strategies of successful affiliate marketing.

One of the main problems in working alone online is lack of knowledge and understanding. It’s easy to go down many rabbit holes and spend weeks and even years on the wrong kinds of activities. Weekly webinars, seminars and 1 on 1 affiliate marketing coaching helped me massively.

Blogging

Blogging is a digital marketing strategy I’ve used for years now. This article is an example of a blog post which can be used to attract the right kind of audience. By making a habit out of blogging regularly, marketers can target the kind of people who are suitable for their business.

If their content gets found, they can even get customers for free; given the time and energy. The best way to create content is to find the most appropriate keywords for your target audience. When you can also find those which offer the least competition, you have a chance of getting free traffic from Google and the other search engines.

Direct Response Marketing – PPC

PPC or pay per click marketing lets you advertise directly to people who meet your “perfect customer” criteria. For example, Google Adwords lets you target specific search traffic. When someone types a certain keyword into the search engine, your advert comes up. Only when they click on your advert do you pay.

Facebook lets you target people by their location, age and interests. So if you can carefully identify your perfect customer “avatar”, you’ll be able to spend money on acquiring customers directly. When you get this right, you can simply increase your budget and find more very quickly.

Digital Marketing Mentorship – Money Without Your Own Products

You can even use digital marketing to make money without any of your own products or services. A clever business model known as affiliate marketing lets anyone promote and sell other people’s products online. You can then earn commissions based on those sales. Affiliate marketing also gives anyone to possibility to work from anywhere globally without a boss or a job.

This was the main reason I was first attracted to affiliate marketing. I wanted to escape the 9 to 5 life and work from home. Despite a lot of struggle with affiliate marketing in the early days, I eventually found a business model which worked, through the SFM digital business system.

Jumping from one strategy to another, looking for a “quick win”, is a sure way to lose momentum and become discouraged. Learn one strategy well before moving on to another one.

Success In Digital Marketing

There are of course fast digital marketing strategies and slow ones. Paid marketing is no doubt a much faster strategy than organic content creation, for example.

With a Google Adwords campaign running, you can see traffic increase in a matter of hours, once your ads are approved. Content marketing by comparison will take weeks or months to get the same traction you see instantly with paid advertising. Plus, with content marketing you’ll need to put in the time first and create the content.

Blogging, depending on your topic, can take years to get traction with. If your topic is competitive, it’ll be considerably more difficult, too, and take much longer.

Whether you’re a pay per click marketer, or a content marketer will depend on your budget, business model and timeframe. If you want a business built up fast, you’ll probably want to use at least some paid marketing. But if you have the time, and are patient, you can focus on content marketing if paid marketing strategies don’t work for you.

Success In Digital Marketing

Knowing which direction you want to go with your digital marketing strategy is an important starting point. Trying “a bit of this and a bit of that” doesn’t get you very far, especially with content marketing. You’ll need a lot of content in order to see an increase in your website traffic, leads and sales. This takes time and patience.

But if you have a good idea of what your content is going to be about, and know your topic, content marketing can be a great long term strategy. Once you start getting traction, it’s free traffic too! But expect to work at it for a while, and to keep going even when there’s no visible results for some time.

Digital Marketing – Paid Marketing

With paid marketing you can get traction very quickly. But you can also easily spend money which you don’t get back in sales too. So initially, it’s worth starting with a small daily budget and building up from there. Test and measure your advertising and get used to the platform and tracking your results before increasing the budget and scaling up.

If you don’t have the time to create content, or it’s not your “bag”, paid marketing is the way to go. With Google Adwords, you can target specific keyword searches which relate to your business and send people directly to your website. You can set a small daily budget initially so you can learn the platform.

Many business owners think Adwords is a waste of money. But that’s because they haven’t understood how powerful it really is. They (over) spend too soon, don’t test, and see nothing for their efforts. But if done correctly, you should test and measure all your traffic which comes from your adverts. This way, you’ll know which campaigns are working and which to shut off.

A good way to use Adwords is to start off with you main keywords as your search queries. That way, when someone types into Google keywords relating to your business, your advert shows up. But it’s also worth limiting the searches to your specific location and adding negative keywords too.

Over time, you’ll be able to see which search terms triggered your advert and limit those which are irrelevant. Without these checks and balances, Google will happily take your money and show your advert to people outside of your business location, or with search terms which aren’t relevant to your business.

As you get better with paid marketing, you’ll spend less for traffic and earn more in sales.

A successful marketing strategy can involve a number of different marketing methods:

1. Adwords search traffic targeted at your main keywords
2. YouTube organic marketing – building content for YouTube
3. A free Google local business listing
4. Blogging – creating written content targeted at your potential customers
5. Niche website creation – building smaller satellite websites targeted at specific keywords
6. Social media organic traffic can be built up on any of the many social media sites available – Twitter, Linkedin, Facebook, YouTube etc.

But where do you start?

Online Marketing Success – Which Platform First?

If you have a physical business you should definitely have a website already and use a Google Places listing. Google My Business, formally Google Places offers a free listing for physical businesses.

It takes only a short time to set up an account and get your listing live using Google My Business. You’ll have to confirm your address and you’ll usually receive something in the post with a code on it to verify your listing is genuine.

Online Marketing Success

Next start with paid marketing. For only small amounts you can target specific search queries using Google Adwords which relate to your business. You can also use Bing (now Microsoft advertising) which has a similar platform to Google and of course Yahoo.

With paid marketing platforms you can set a small daily budget while you get used to the platform. Again, target specific keywords which relate to your business. You can use Google’s keyword planner to find them.

Type your “seed keyword” into the planner and you’ll see the search terms which are already being searched for on Google.

Free Marketing – Blogging

You can also use data from the keyword planner to find long tail keywords within your business niche. Then, create content for the ones which offer the least competition.

You can check for keyword competition by doing a normal search on Google using a desktop device. You should see a number come up for the number of competing websites for the particular phrase you’re using.

The lower this number, the less competition there will be for your specific keyword.

YouTube Video

You can use a similar strategy to get traffic back to your website using YouTube – both organically and using paid marketing. Find longer tail keywords which are already being searched for on YouTube by typing your seed keyword into the search bar on YouTube.

Then take the keywords which offer the least competition; these are usually the longer ones. Create videos and tag them with your chosen keywords. Then, link back from videos to your website. If you stick at this strategy for some time, and keep creating useful videos targeted at your audience, you should see some steady growth in traffic.

Building Niche Websites

A niche website is basically the same kind of tactic as the blogging and YouTube. Only with a niche website, you build the website around your main keywords and attempt to get it ranking on Google, and other search engines.

With the right niche, and by building some quality content to help your visitors with something, you can get some traction using this method. I have several niche websites which get traffic from Google and other search engines.

Or course much like the organic YouTube strategy and the blogging method, this is a “slow burner”. You need to stick at it for months before you’ll see regular traffic from these methods. If you want things to happen more quickly, you’ll need to use paid marketing.

There’s many ways to do digital marketing and which you choose depends on your individual approach. It will also depend on your business, too. A digital marketing mentor can help you learn marketing and overcome mindset issues which hold you back from success.

Digital Marketing Success – Paid Marketing

Paid marketing is one of the best ways to start promoting a business online. With paid marketing, you get the best traffic. You can target keywords which are specific to your business and get traction fast. Google Adwords is one of the best platforms businesses can use to grow.

Initially you’ll start with a small budget which you can cap off at a price which is suitable for you. Don’t start with a big budget before you really know what you’re doing. Google will always take your money, whether you get it right or not! So don’t waste money on a campaign before you’re sure about it.

Most marketers will start with a small budget and slowly build up when they know they are profitable. This makes sense but it’s easy to think you can just throw money at it to make it work. There’s many platforms you can use for digital marketing success. Adwords is just one of them.

Free Marketing

If you’re not ready to use paid marketing, or your business model doesn’t allow it, there’s plenty of free marketing strategies you can use.

One of my favourite free marketing strategies is blogging! But you can also use any of the social media platforms to generate a following. YouTube is another popular free marketing strategies, which also offers a paid option for marketers.

With blogging, or organic traffic from video, you’ll need to create content and get good at SEO – search engine optimisation. This article, for example, is specifically targeted by keywords. A simple blogging strategy I use is to find long tail keywords in my niche and write content for that particular keyword. You can read more about this strategy in my ebook Niche Blogging For Profit.

Digital Marketing Success – A Free Business Listing

If you have a physical business and want to use free marketing to promote it, one of the first things you should do is get a free business listing.

Google My Business, formally Google Places, offers physical businesses a free listing on their search platform.

Once up and running, this can bring in new customers for years with only a small amount of time needed for setting up. It’s a no-brainer for a physical business if you have one.

Digital Marketing Success – Niche Websites

Another strategy I’ve had some success with is niche website building. With a niche website, you can target a specific keyword with your domain name. This can help you get ranked on the search engines for your chosen keywords; according to the relative competition for your keywords.

I’ve used this successfully to build websites for businesses too. With a keyword targeted domain name built around the businesses main keywords, you can more easily rank your site locally.

As an example, I built my kung fu school around the keywords Bradford and Wing Chun – the style of kung fu I practice. So if you look on Google for Wing Chun in Bradford, you’ll see my site at the top. Of course you can also add content to encourage rankings in other, related keywords which you can find using Google’s keyword planner.

A city and main keyword domain name has worked a number of time for clients I’ve built websites for too.

Digital Marketing Success – Online Affiliate Business

In 2014 I joined an online marketing mentorship community called the SFM Mentors.

I found digital success online after finding a group of online mentors and coaches. I learned how to build an online business from scratch without any products of my own.

Digital Success – My Story

Back in the early 2000’s I was looking for a means to use the internet to make some extra money. I was juggling a number of jobs while building a career as a stunt performer (see my about me page for more on this).

I joined a number of online courses which eventually led me to a business model known as affiliate marketing. With affiliate marketing you don’t need any products of your own; you can promote other people’s products online and get paid a commission based on the sale.

After taking a number of courses which I detail in my digital profit course review, I was still no further with my digital success plans. I was about to ditch the idea of selling products online when I found a video of a guy on a pedalo, talking about his online business.

I bit the bullet and bought his course but after years of struggling online I was pretty sceptical. I was surprised to be able to meet both the founders of the company Stuart Ross and Jay Kubassek at one of their meetings in London.

Digital Success Mentors – The SFM

The SFM Mentors are digital success mentors who showed me, and many others, how to build an online business from scratch. I was able to meet both Stuart and Jay but also many other members of this online business community.

Mentors offers an “all in one” digital business community offering training and mentorship in many aspects of online marketing and online entrepreneurship.

Stuart and Jay’s background is in affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is a business model which many people use online in order to make money through selling other people’s products and services.

Biz Mentorship – My Story

Before I found a group of online mentors, I struggled for years. I was juggling a number of jobs trying to make a go of a career as a stunt performer. See my about page for more on this.

Initially, I was only looking for a part time income from the internet in order to subsidise my stunt career. But over the years as I got older, I saw the internet as a means to build a full time income which could surpass that of the stunt business.

After spending several years and jumping through many hoops (no pun intended), I eventually found an online business community. They taught me a different business model and a way to use leverage to generate a dependable income. Without a “biz mentorship” I was lost, jumping from course to course with no real foundation or direction.

But once I found coaches and mentors, I was able to have more confidence in my online direction. I could follow others too and ask questions of people who had already succeeded. I even accessed 1 on 1 affiliate marketing coaching and mentoring sessions.

Biz Mentorship – The Community

I found a video of a guy called Stuart Ross on Facebook one day and decided that I needed to purchase his course. I was sceptical of course but knew if I did nothing I’d be stuck juggling HGV driving jobs, office jobs and the occasional stunt job.

After personally meeting Stuart Ross and Jay Kubassek in 2014, my confidence in them grew. I hadn’t realised how massively sceptical I had become. So I persevered and joined a number of online training groups through The SFM.

With seminars, webinars and, (pre-pandemic) actual meet-ups, I was able to learn from mentors who had already built massive online businesses. This is what many of the other courses I took simply didn’t provide.

Modelling Success

It takes time to build an online business and it’s very difficult to do it alone. With the right people to model though it can be a much simpler process. Before I found this online community, I was struggling trying to promote low value affiliate products with free marketing strategies. I could have worked for 10 years and still not got anywhere!

With some physical products affiliate can earn from 3%-11% commissions on their sales. But this business model isn’t a great one, as many affiliates know. It means you have to use free marketing because the business model simply doesn’t allow enough of a margin to use paid advertising.

Using the SFM Digital Business System meant I could other marketing strategies which were faster and more scalable – (paid marketing strategies).

Business Mentorship – Psychology

Without a business mentor it can be easy to drift along alone without accountability. Your thinking can easily limit your business too, and you won’t become aware of the belief and limitations holding you back. With a mentor, and other members of a community, you can be held accountable, and also reach out for help when you need it.

If you’re holding a lot of counter-productive thoughts, such as scepticism and doubt in your mind, they will act as breaks to your progress. Those who succeed online follow mentors who have already succeeded and do what they have done!
