Getting a digital marketing mentor is the best thing I did for my internet business. When I started out looking for an income from the internet, I tried all kinds of things.
I initially started with eBay way back in 1995 when they opened their doors. It wasn’t until a little later that I discovered the huge potential of selling digital information over the internet. This idea lit a light bulb in my head and I knew this was the future!
I had bought an ebook from eBay which taught me a system to make money from the giant auction site. You can read about the content of the book in my article “how to start a profitable ebay business“. Although I did use the method taught in the book to make a bit of extra money, it was the selling of the book itself which made me sit up! Here was a means for anyone to automate an online sale and deliver the product hands free and cost free!

I made my own ebooks and attempted to sell them on eBay and through my own website. However, I had many problems. It just wasn’t working and the main problem was that I didn’t know how to market online. I took a number of marketing courses and this led me to affiliate marketing.

Finding A Digital Marketing Mentor
I had taken multiple courses over a period of 10 years or so when I eventually found a digital marketing mentor program. Finding an actual person to help with an affiliate business was pretty much unheard of 20 years ago. How many affiliate marketers do you know? So, as I rocked up to my first actual ‘in-person’ meeting, I was kind of sceptical!
But there’s a huge power in meeting people face to face. I started thinking that it was a ‘real’ thing after all. Many friends and relatives were dismissive of the internet income idea 10 years ago. Even now many of them still are! But once you start meeting people who have succeeded online, your faith and trust is restored.
Once you get over the fears and insecurities of working alone on something which may be a ‘scam’, you start to take bigger steps and commit to the goal of becoming a full time online entrepreneur!

The online training and mastermind groups have helped me the most. Working online can be a solitary experience. There’s plenty of rabbit holes to fall down, and I’ve fallen down most of them. When you can see those who are successful first hand, and personally ask them questions, it’s a huge help. Without that you’re on your own and this is tough then you don’t know what you’re doing!

The fastest way to generate success online is to model the success of others who are already successful!
This was my problem for years before I found a digital marketing mentor. I tried all sorts of methods of marketing: blogging, video marketing, article submission sites, free blogging platforms, paid strategies, you name it! I jumped around and wasted time because I didn’t have any confidence in my direction or strategies. So I wasn’t consistent in any given direction.
When you can see the path to success clearly and you trust it is right for you, you can make far faster progress in a shorter time, than you can going it alone online. Modelling the success of others is key to success online.
